Risks & adverse effects

Botox Therapeutic® treatments in particular are one of the safest non-surgical procedures performed when injected by a highly trained qualified physician. It provides a temporary effect. The single most important adverse effect is botulism which can occur as a result of improper dose injection causing difficulty with swallowing and breathing. The main complication of Botox is procedural, in that “unwanted results” may occur. These may include temporary facial nerve paralysis, facial asymmetry and restricted smile in this particular treatment. As such a comprehensive knowledge of anatomy is essential and will lessen the risk of occurrence of these events. There may be redness, pain and swelling associated with the site of injection which is all short-lived and spontaneously resolves. There is a possibility of bruising, as is with every injection which will resolve within 7-10 days. To minimize this, we ask our patients to avoid the use of blood thinners such as aspirin, ibuprofen family of medications, vitamin E, ginseng, unless as directed by your physician. Our doctors will provide further instructions to you in case of bruising to speed recovery time and resolution. At One Clinic MD, your safety and satisfaction with your results is our first and foremost priority.

How Does It Work?

Botulinum toxin injected into masseters will effectively relax the muscle and thereby reduce tension and pain syndrome associated with TMJ disorder and/or bruxism. With regular maintenance and after multiple treatment sessions, the results will be longer-lasting and more effective.

Contraindications
