Tear Trough Enhancement
Trough-like hollows can be present in the area where the cheekbones meet under the eye, either due to volume loss with aging, or genetically. This can worsen due to loss of skin laxity, volume and hydration in the upper mid-face, as we age and create a tired look. Surgical interventions, namely blepharoplasty, have been performed for years to remove extra loose skin in this area. Not everyone is considered to be a surgical candidate, however. Dermal fillers are a great option in treating this area in most cases.
Conditions It Treats
- Under-eye hollows
- Aging features
- Genetic conditions
Risks & adverse effects
Risks and adverse effects associated with injectable fillers are minimal in general. The common immediate adverse effects are bruising, redness, swelling and itching in the injected area which will subside in a few days. Much less commonly there may be eruptions, skin sores or infection at the injection site. On rare occasions, hard persistent bumps or nodules may form requiring surgical excision or dermal fillers may migrate and spread to an area other than the one they were injected into.
How Does It Work?
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding
- The presence of an active skin condition in the treatment area
- History of/or active neuromuscular disease
